Jason Cheek, High School, Teacher
My name is Jason Cheek. My wife, Carrie, and I have five beautiful daughters: Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Hannah, and Elizabeth. We live in Brown Summit, NC.
Education and Experience:
I have a B.A. in Mathematics Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I also earned my National Boards Certification in 2003 and successfully renewed this certification in 2013. I have taught high school math for over 25 years.
The Reason I Teach:
I love math and statistics, and I love working with teenagers, so teaching high school math seemed like the perfect career for me. It is my passion and goal to ensure that my students are not only well prepared for future math courses, but that they have the ability to excel in mathematics and the motivation to consider a STEM-centered career path if they so choose.
About Me:
I enjoy listening to music, playing the drums in the praise band at my church, playing basketball, and cheering for the Tarheels. My favorite quote is a Bible verse: 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sins and will heal their land." I love the “If-Then” statement in this verse, maybe because I'm a math teacher. It's basically God's promise to us that IF we can exercise obedience, THEN He will do amazing things with us, for us, and through us.
Classroom Needs:
If you would like to contribute something to me or my classroom, the most helpful items are Target or Office Depot gift cards. With gift cards, I can purchase the specific types of items that I need (pens, file folders, white-out, sticky notes, colored paper, etc.). I am also in need of boxes of tissues. I truly appreciate any contributions you can make to my classroom and your child’s education.
