Happy Sunday! We “officially” end our 1st 9 weeks of instruction this week! Wednesday begins the start of Quarter 2. All assignments or work must be turned in (including those with USB drives) by Monday, October 5th by 4:00 P.M. NO EXCEPTIONS.

All of our students, teachers, and parents have worked incredibly hard this 1st Quarter during remote learning and we are very proud of your continued hard work! Navigating instruction and learning during a pandemic is not easy and it’s tough on everyone included! But, one thing that has remained constant during this time is that we are all in this together! As long as we continue to remember that, we will be successful! Keep up the hard work! Our first quarter has been about learning how to be flexible, patient, and understanding as we navigated a brand new platform for many of our students and teachers. Shout out to our AMAZING teachers as well for navigating new ways to deliver instruction.

We will continue working on ways to bring our kids back on campus in January. You will be seeing updates soon of all of the changes/updates we’ve made thus far and are continuing to make to ensure CGS is ready for our students to return safely. Please continue to work hard this 2nd Quarter during remote learning. Thank you for all you do to support your student, and our school! Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work together to ensure safety and security for all of our students.

Report Cards:

-Report Cards will be delayed this quarter for students enrolled in High School courses. If your student is enrolled in a High School course, their report cards will be ready for distribution on Friday, October 23rd. This delay is due to some additional calculations needed to be updated and accurate in PowerSchool. With changing our schedule this year for the first time, (periods/blocks) we want to ensure that the information printed on the report cards is accurate and that there aren’t any errors. Thank you for your patience with this! Report Cards for students in Grades K-8 that are not enrolled in High School courses will be available for pick up this Friday, October 9th from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Any report cards not picked up will be mailed home after break.

PowerSchool:

-PowerSchool will “shut down” for students/parents while we calculate final grades for Quarter 1. This will begin on Monday, October 5th @ 3:00 P.M. It will reopen after we return from Academic Break.

PowerSchool Guidance for Parents:

-Please click here for some guidance regarding deciphering PowerSchool information. This LINK includes all K-12 guidelines, key terminology, percentage breakdowns for course grades, as well as a diagram for how grades are calculated.

Check In’s:

-Please see the attached reminders for “Check in” testing on campus this week. We are excited to see our students on campus, but safety is our #1 priority! Face masks and social distancing will be enforced the entirety of the time spent on campus. Thank you for your help enforcing this with your students prior to coming on campus.

FAQ’s about Check-In’s:

-If you’re an 8th grader in Math 1, your check in will not take place until December.

-If you’re an 8th grader in Science but you do not take your course until next semester, you will not be taking check-in’s during this time.

Calculators:

-Students will be allowed to check out calculators during NC Check-ins if they do not have one. (Calculator loan agreements are attached. Students will fill this out on the day they “borrow” the calculators.) Students can bring their own TI-83/84 calculators if they have one. Students cannot bring or use calculators on their cell phones.

Sportsmanship Announcement:

-We would like to announce that CGS was awarded three Awesome Sportsmanship Awards this past week for the 2019-20 school year. For the second year in a row, Clover Garden Athletic Department was awarded the All Conference Sportsmanship Award in our High School Conference (Central Tar Heel High Conference) and the first year in the Middle School Conference (Mid State Conference).  The NCHSAA also announced for the second year in a row that Clover Garden was awarded the Ejection Free Sportsmanship Award. We would like to thank our coaches who instill and promote this character into our student-athletes and our parents for helping support them.  Congratulations CGS Grizzlies on winning the ultimate award!! We are very proud of you!

CGS Athletic Announcement:

-CGS Athletic Department and Administration wanted to remind everyone that CGS athletics and extracurricular activities continue to be “on hold/cancelled” as long as we remain in remote learning. Per the NCHSAA, if the NC Governor and NCHSAA moves to phase 3 over the next month, cross country and volleyball may begin their seasons November 4. The NCHSAA updated its sports season due to COVID-19. I have attached the updated sports calendar for you to review. The sports seasons have been condensed and adjusted to create shortened seasons for all sports. As CGS is continuing remote learning for the first semester, we will not participate in Cross Country or Volleyball this school year. Please know that we remain hopeful as the school has begun to bring small groups of students on campus for testing.  If we can manage these small groups safely, we feel we may be able to consider bringing athletics back to campus in December. Ultimately the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and families is the most important. Thank you again for your understanding! Please contact Coach Moyer at kellymoyer@cgsnc.org for questions.

Material Distribution:

-On Monday, October 5, 2020,  we will have another distribution of materials for students. If your student has any of the courses listed below, please make sure that you come by campus and pick up their materials. Please stay in your vehicle and we will bring the material out to you. Please enter from the Burch Bridge Road entrance and travel around the building to the front circle. We request that you wear your face mask while interacting with our faculty/staff and that you remain 6 feet apart to social distance. If you’ve been in contact with anyone that has tested positive for Covid-19 or if you have symptoms of Covid-19 yourself, please do not come on campus. Thank you for helping us keep our faculty/staff safe!

Students with last names A-M will need to pick up materials from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M.

Students with last names N-Z will need to pick up materials from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.
