Name: Chris Mejia

How many years have you been a student at CGS?

I came to CGS during my 6th-grade year, so I’ve been at this school for 7 years now!

What clubs, organizations, teams, etc have you been involved with during your high school career?

I’ve been a part of all of the band organizations (concert band, marching band, jazz band, and pep band), and participated in Envirothon from 6th grade to 10th grade.

What is your favorite Clover Garden memory?

My favourite memory at CGS will have to be band competitions. Outside of the joy of performing for others, the experience is very lively and energized. You get to meet new people, talk with friends, eat good food, and listen to great music. Everyone seems to come out of their shell during competition season too, so it’s always fun to see and spend time with a new side of people!

If you had to choose one person from CGS that has really made a difference in your life who would that be?

Although he isn’t here at the moment, I’d have to say Mr. Babb. He really revived my passion for music during a time that it was at its lowest, and helped me in very personal ways outside of just school and band. He’s influenced my attitude towards others in a very positive way, and my overall mindset has changed for the better. Without him, I most likely would not be pursuing music as a career, so I am very grateful for his time with us.

What is your plan for after graduation?

I am going to attend the University of Carolina School of the Arts so that I can study music composition. I hope to do an abroad study during that time, and hopefully join an apprenticeship under an accomplished composer. I hope to write music for games, movies, and TV shows in the future, as well as to eventually have my music played by a professional orchestra. My overall dream, though, is to compose the soundtrack for a show by Kyoto Animation, as their shows have some of my favourite instrumental soundtracks of all time.
