As a parent of a student at Clover Garden School, you hold an important role in our school’s success, as a Clover Garden School Stakeholder. Other CGS Stakeholders include all teachers and staff as well as individuals in the greater community. As stakeholders, you have a unique opportunity, namely to participate in the Clover Garden School Board of Directors’ public election.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and oversight of the school. This differs greatly from regular public school. We abide by the same Federal and State education requirements as all public schools. However, within our approved Charter, the Board makes many decisions regarding policy, curriculum, and finances to ensure our students receive the highest quality education. Critical to any enterprise’s overall health and sustainability is the Board’s depth of experience, knowledge, and wisdom that the Board imparts on the administration of the organization.

We look forward to the opportunities that our school will have in the very near future. We are currently planning for the expansion of our school to an additional site. Parents that participate as Board members will be a crucial part of this planning process.

What “qualifies” someone as a candidate?

Board members must be in “Good Standing” with CGS. “Good Standing” is defined as:

  • Demonstrates personal integrity
  • Demonstrates commitment to sound educational values
  • Is supportive of school policies and personnel
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well with others and appreciate diversity
  • Displays leadership in contributions of time, knowledge, resources, and/or abilities tobenefit the school’s mission.
  • Comply with North Carolina Public School Laws

Board members in “Good Standing” should:

  • Be familiar with the charter of the school
  • Work with the school community to promote an atmosphere in which education is valuedby all
  • Refer complaints to the appropriate school authorities-See Grievance Process and Chain ofCommand.
  • Accept the will of the majority and give wholehearted support to the decisions reached
  • NOT speak negatively against the school

They do not have specific qualifications, other than a Board member is required to be a person of integrity with life experiences that have trained her/him for leadership. Education, business, marketing, and entrepreneurship are all skillsets that would provide “added value” to the process of oversight and governance of our school.

Currently, we have two open parent elected seats on our Board. Serving on the Clover Garden School Board of Directors is a 3-year commitment. Active participation in monthly meetings and dedicated committee work is a requirement of the position.
