Recently Cameron Zachary, one of our Seniors, spoke with Mr. Graham about CGS’ newly formed Mentorship Program. Below are excerpts from that interview.

Cameron:
What is the Mentorship Program?
Mr. Graham:
The mentorship program is designed to help students develop positive coping skills which will help them to be successful socially, academically, and personally. We pair our middle school students with upperclassmen who work to create nurturing and supportive relationships that give our middle school mentees the support and guidance they need from an older more experienced student.

Cameron:
Why did you start this program?
Mr. Graham:
No matter who you are or where you come from there are times when you just need someone to talk to. Someone who’ll just listen without judgment. Someone to encourage you.  Let’s face it sometimes kids would rather talk to other kids than adults. These are just a few reasons why our program was created.

Cameron:
Have you seen any positive results from the program yet?
Mr. Graham:
This program is the first of its kind and we’re still working out all of the kinks. But because of the dedication of our mentors and the support of the administration we are seeing some success. We are looking forward to seeing our program grow exponentially over the next few years. The sky is the limit.

Cameron:
Is it too late to join the program?
Mr. Graham:
Since we had a late start this year and with graduation quickly approaching it would be very difficult to place a student with a senior mentor, however, we are recruiting mentors for next year.

If you are interested in being part of the Mentorship Program please reach out to Mr. Graham or Ms. Burge. We would also like to send a huge shoutout to Mr. Graham and Ms. Burge for creating this program and supporting our Grizzlies! #GOGRIZZLIES #grizzlypride #cgsmentorship
