Clover Garden recently welcomed a new member to our administration team, Mr. Baker.  He along with Mrs. Moore are our Assistant Principals. To help you get to know him a bit better we asked him a few ‘get to know you questions.’  Take a few minutes to read his responses and when you see him around campus be sure to say hello and introduce yourself!

Where are you from?

I am originally from Raeford, NC which is located about 2 hours south of Burlingon.  I graduated from Hoke County High School.  I currently live in Greensboro, NC.  I have been there for about 20 years.

What are your favorite hobbies outside of school?

My hobbies would include movies – I love horror, comedy, thrillers and action movies the most. I also enjoy all types of music, going to the gym and spending time with my friends on weekends.  I also enjoy judging marching band competitions during the Fall.

Can you tell us a little about your education and background?

I received my bachelors degree in Music from Appalachian State University – the best school in the world!!! I went to work for a music company as a Repair shop manager until deciding to go back to school for my teaching license.  I attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, where I earned my Masters Degree in Teaching, concentrating in music.  Upon graduation, I got my first job as a band director in my home town at West Hoke Middle School.  I taught there for four years and moved to Uwharrie Middle School in Randolph County.  I was there for 8 years.  I then  moved to Southern Guilford Middle School where I was the band director for 11 years.  During my time at Southern Guilford Middle School, I earned my Add On License in Public School Administration from Appalachian State University which helped me obtain my current position at Clover Garden School.

I have been in education for 23 years. Some of the positions I have held during my years in education are, Department Head, Assistant Beta Club advisor, Student Council Advisor, Gear Up Advisor, member of leadership teams for each school, and ran the afterschool tutoring program at Southern Guilford Middle School. I also developed three winterguard programs that each won their conference championships. I have been a marching band and colorguard instructor for several schools in North Carolina and South Carolina.

How did you learn about Clover Garden School?

My first knowledge of Clover Garden School was from judging the CGS marching band at a local competition.  I had never heard of the school at that point.  I was so impressed with the program and how the students presented themselves that I knew CGSs must be a special place!  When I had the opportunity to apply here, I jumped on it!  I didn’t think I had a chance but I was wrong!  Thankfully wrong!

Do you have any hopes/dreams for the 2021-2022 school year?

I hope that I can have success and joy as an administrator at CGS in the same way I did as a band director.  I hope to be an effective leader and inspiration to CGS.

Mr. Baker’s office is located upstairs in building three. If you need to contact him please send an email to bryanbaker@cgsnc.org.
