This month we are celebrating literacy! At Clover Garden, we love all things books. We love picture books, chapter books, book series, biographies, autobiographies, fiction, nonfiction, books, books, books! We also know that our students love books. As we celebrate this week we want you to share your favorite book, book series, character, or author.

When I (Mrs. Thompson) was a child (not too awfully long ago) I loved to read. I would read books about dinosaurs, heroes, far away galaxies, imaginary kingdoms, science, and just about anything else. As a young child, my favorite characters were Amelia Bedelia, Curious George, The Cat in the Hat, and Clifford the Big Red Dog! Then as I got older and started reading chapter books my favorites were Where the Red Fern Grows, The Journey of Natty Gann, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Call of the Wild, and a science magazine written for kids (I can’t remember the title).

Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia

As I got older I loved to read stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. His primary character Sherlock Holmes is still a favorite of mine! I also loved Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the Harry Potter series, and mysteries by Agatha Christie. I still love to read and tend to prefer suspense fiction about spies and espionage or books about education.

Regardless of how old I am books allow me to learn, travel, imagine, dream, and grow without leaving my room. I encourage you to check out the characters and books I listed above.

Make sure to share your favorite character, book, or series with us as we celebrate MARCHing into a Culture of Literacy! (Get your parent to post your favorite on the CGS Facebook page!)
