As we revisit our Living’ The CGS Teacher Life series Mrs. Nikola is in the spotlight. This young woman has ben a part pf the Clover Garden family for seven years. Our middle schoolers get to benefit from Mrs. Nikola’s skill in the classroom as she teaches seventh and eighth grade ELA this year.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family.

“My husband and I have been together for over six years and we have been married for two and a half. We have a five year-old German Shepard mix named Draper, a black cat (that we rescued and bottle fed from Clover Garden’s garden), and a seven year-old cat named Nala.”

Where did you attend college and what types of jobs have you held?

“I was an English Education Major at Elon University. I was a teaching fellow, part of a small group, worked at Elon’s Writing Center, and worked for Elon Academy. My favorite college memory would have to be studying abroad in London! I am currently starting the process of completing my National Boards.”

What are your favorite hobbies, books, foods, places to vacation, etc?

“My favorite hobby is doing yoga! I took a 200 hour class, and became a certified yoga teacher over the summer. My husband and I also love to travel (when Covid’s not happening), and we have been able to go to some amazing places like Iceland, Italy, and France.”

What drives you as an educator?

“I am proud that I am certified to teach both middle and high school students. I love that I get the opportunity to work with different age groups. I am also proud to have been a Grizzly for seven years. It has allowed me to see all the growth and amazing things our grizzlies have done throughout the years!”

What is your best advice for students?

My advice to students is to remember that there is a whole world out there! Who you are right now does not define who you have to be forever. If you are not happy with something, you can change it. If there is a situation you feel stuck in, it won’t last forever. There is so much opportunity in the world; it just takes hard work and patience.
