North Carolina Superintendent Johnson is asking for your help during this Holiday Season. He is asking our state’s school children and families to help bring cheer to our country’s brave servicemen and women this holiday season. The CGS Student Council feels this is a very worth cause and hopes we can count on you to participate!

Helping is easy all you have to do is:

  • Start with a greeting card or a piece of paper no larger than 8×11 (folded in half to make a card).
  • Address the card to “Dear Service Member,”
  • Write a personal note. Share about yourself and your community. For example: How do you celebrate the holidays? What are your family memories of the holidays? Our servicemen and servicewomen enjoy learning about your hometown. The messages can be serious or funny or both, always keeping in mind that appropriate and respectful language is a must! (See more prompts below.)
  • Sign your first name ONLY and list your school and town.
  • Envelopes are not necessary. If you have an envelope, please do NOT seal it. There is no need to address the envelope, but you can write “Service Member” on the outside of the envelope. Feel free to decorate the envelope.

Last year more than 51,000 cards were delivered to our service men and women serving all over the world. With our Grizzlies helping hopefully we can break last year’s record!

“This year we want to celebrate and honor all of the servicemen and servicewomen who will be spending the upcoming holidays away from home and their families. They protect and serve our country, but they will miss many of the things that make the holidays special,” said Superintendent Johnson. “We are proud that North Carolina is one of the top states for our servicemen and servicewomen. These thoughtful and kind messages mean so much to our heroes especially during this very challenging year.”

Mark Johnson, North Carolina Superintendent
