Campus Life

Students at Eastern Carolina can choose from over five hundred student organizations. Some of these organizations are part of Greek life, groups dedicated to specific majors, and clubs that are just for fun. For instance the ECU website lists two unique opportunities that allow students to give back to the community:

  • A Moment of Magic – This club is described as allowing, “college aged students dressed up as popular character to provide creative programming to medically vulnerable children” in hospitals, in private homes and other locations.
  • Riley’s Army at ECU – This organization is described as a group that works with the non-profit Riley’s Army in order to, “help local children and their families battle pediatric cancer and aims to raise awareness of the disease.”

Additional opportunities include Women in Tech, Young Life College, Photography Guild and many more. No matter your interests your are sure to find a home for extracurricular fun on campus.

For students interested in studying abroad ECU offers a unique opportunity in Certaldo Alto, Italy. The ECU Tuscany program allows students to live and learn in a picturesque setting. Since the programs inception in 2008, more than 800 students have studied in Italy. According to the ECU website the courses offered on their Certaldo Alto campus are, “courses to earn general education requirements, such as world history, art history, literature, Italian language, geology, digital photography, drawing, color and design, jewelry making and painting. “Courses are chosen for the program that take advantage of our location in Tuscany. Geology students climb to the top of Mount Vesuvius and into the caves of Lucca. History students walk through the Roman Colosseum and ruins of Pompeii. And literature and art history students can walk in the footsteps of Plato, Da Vinci, Michelangelo and live next door to the writer Giovanni Boccaccio’s house,” Darty says.”

Athletics also play a big part on the campus of ECU! Pirate Nation is a strong community that stands for academics and strong pride in the athletic teams sponsored by the university. ECU is an NCAA member in all of its 16 intercollegiate sports and is a member of the American Athletic Conference.
