On Tuesday, October 20 our CGS Board approved CGS Athletics to begin if everything goes well between now and then. Student-athletes who are ELIGIBLE will be permitted to try-out on the dates below no matter if you are remote or on campus.

Beginning on December 21, 2020, Athletics will begin allowing practice sessions for the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys Basketball teams. There will be no JV Boys Basketball season this year due to the overlapping of the Varsity Boys Soccer season.

  • Games will be scheduled to begin on January 4th. There will be a total of 14 games allowed with a limit of 2 games a week maximum.

Beginning on January 4th, Middle School Basketball practice will begin.

  • Games can begin on January 12th. There will be a total of 10 games allowed with a limit of 2 games per week maximum.

Athletics will be following strict guidance and requirements for preventing the spread of COVID-19 given from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. A copy of that document can be found by clicking here. More information will be coming soon to those families of students involved in athletics.

Those student-athletes who plan on trying out for basketball need to keep in mind the Attendance and Academic Policies that CGS, NCDPI and NCHSAA have set forth. Even in remote learning you will be held accountable. Please read the guidelines below.

Academics – In order to be eligible to participate in athletics, the student-athlete must pass at least 2 block classes and 2 period classes during the last quarter (1st Quarter for High School, 2nd Quarter for Middle School) completed prior to the period of participation per Clover Garden School policy and pass the equivalent of 3 full block classes during the preceding semester (1st and 2nd Quarter) per the NCHSAA policy for high school and the DPI policy for middle school.

Attendance – It is a policy of Clover Garden that every student-athlete attend school. Student-athletes must not miss 10 or more days in a semester or they will be ineligible for the next semester. If a student-athlete misses 10 or more days they may appeal their absences by filling out the Athletic Attendance Appeal Form. Medical documentation is needed to be eligible for an Athletic Attendance Appeal.
