Mrs. Vereyken introduced our student-athletes and Coach Paschal at the Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday night. She talked about how much the sports program has grown since she took over. She informed the Board that Coach Paschal teaches and manages athletics on both campuses. She also described students who came not only as good athletes but also as leaders, mentors, and great members of our school.
Coach Paschal thanked the Board and talked about what she thought had been the best fall sports season since Clover Garden joined the NCHSAA. She highlighted the most important things that have taken place:
Cross Country:
Both boys and girls qualified for states for the first time on record, with five All-Conference runners.
Women’s Tennis:
Produced the conference singles champion and runner-up, multiple regional qualifiers, and a state playoff appearance.
Men’s Soccer:
Went 12–0, became undefeated conference champions, made it to the Elite 8, and had multiple All-Conference athletes.
Volleyball:
Reached the Final Four for the first time in school history and earned the conference Sportsmanship Award.
Coach Paschal pointed out that the seniors who spoke are four-year varsity athletes who are known for their integrity, academics, and desire to help others. Many of them have been at CGS since elementary school, and they are the reason the athletic program is doing so well.
A few students talked about what sports have meant to them, focusing on teamwork, community, and the opportunities they’ve had at CGS. Coach Paschal ended by congratulating them for being leaders in Clover Garden athletics.
