Name: Madison Vernon

How many years have you been a student at CGS?

I transferred to Clover Garden at the start of my seventh-grade year.

What clubs, organizations, teams, etc have you been involved with during your high school career?

Academically I have been in the Spanish Honors Society for four years, the Beta Club for four years, and been in the Career Promise program for two years. Other school activity I have been a part of was the peep band, jazz band, and six years of the marching band. During my marching band career, I was section leader for four years as well as band captain for one year. Outside of school, I am part of two volunteer fire departments. I have been part of the Pelham Volunteer Fire Department for four years and AO Fire Department for one year.

What is your favorite Clover Garden memory?

Hands down the eighth-grade Outer Banks trip. This trip gave me lifetime memories that I will cherish forever. From the bus rides, bus drivers, and all the shenanigans. Everything was so amazing.

If you had to choose one person from CGS that has really made a difference in your life who would that be?

There are multiple amazing people who have helped me. However, Mrs. Nina had the biggest impact on my life. I have spent numerous hours in her office over the years. She has helped me with my pathway in life and supported every decision I have made. She also has doubled as a therapist for me. No matter what I was going through she has helped me stay on track. I would have never gotten to this point without such an amazing person in my corner.

If you had to choose two people from outside CGS that have made a difference in your life who would they be?

Although there are many people who have raised me up and pushed me in life there are two who stick out. First of all my mom, who has literally been with me from my first second of life. We have been through many experiences and dynamics throw our time. We have been there for each other from our highest highs and our lowest lows. As I grow she has become one of my best friends. Another person who influenced me in life is my poppy. From the day I was born he made me a priority no matter what was going on. He has always made his life a second thought to meet my needs and wants. He spoils me every day and never fails to be there for me. Without these two people, I truly would not be the person I am today. I can only hope that every day I grow I use what they taught me and make them proud. I love you both more than I say. Thank you.

What is your plan for after graduation?

After school, I will be entering the C-Step program through ACC. This will step me into UNC Chapel Hill to major in Biology. After I complete my major I will be applying to UNC-Chapel Hill’s medical program. My end goal is to become a surgeon specifically the field of Trauma.
