Bullying is a global problem that impacts many young people.  Due to the widespread nature of this issue the month of October is recognized as National Bullying Prevention Month.  As a school we recognize this problem and do all we can to address and prevent bullying behavior.  Part of that commitment to bullying prevention is educating students in all grade levels on the impact of bullying, what they can do to prevent it, and what to do if you are bullied.

If you are being bullied, please speak to a trusted adult.  Your teachers, coaches, counselor, parents, etc care and will help you.  Also, if you are a bystander that witnesses bullying behavior please speak up!  Talk to a trusted adult and be there for your friends.  Don’t forget that if you are not comfortable speaking out you can use the Say Something Anonymous Reporting app.  A few weeks ago our middle and high school students were introduced to or retrained on the anonymous system. (If you need a reminder just ask.)

Below are a few of the activities going on around campus

  • Kindness Quote – Tomorrow submit your favorite quote that is all about kindness. Submit quotes to your classroom or homeroom teacher. Don’t forget to include the source of your quote (who said it first).
  • Spread Positivity Bracelets – Student Council and Mrs. Thompson’s Introduction to Office Productivity class are teaming up to sell bracelets with motivational quotes that remind our students that positivity and perseverance wins out.
  • Read-Aloud Conversation Starters – For the next two weeks our elementary families should be on the lookout for read alouds posted to Facebook that teach youngsters about bullying, how to be a good friend, and other bullying related topics.  These posts will be available at 5:00PM each day.  CGS encourages our Grizzly families to use these stories as an opportunity to start conversations about bullying. Our kids are never to young to learn about this important topic.
  • Elementary Poster contest – Use your creativity to design a flyer that expresses what bullying is, what you can do to help your friends, etc.
  • MS/HS PSA contest – Use your tech skills and creativity to create a bullying public service announcement. Teach others on what bullying does to the victim, the impact of bullying, etc.

There are lots more activities planned for all grade levels.  Notice that orange is being used in the name of this year’s campaign. This is the awareness color for bullying prevention and on October 22nd we will be creating our very own CGS Orange Out for Bullying. So be ready with your orange outfit to show support! Take a look at the flyers shown below for all the details.  More information will be shared on each of these activities later this week.

Remember if you are being bullied or witnessing bullying behavior say something!  Talk to a trusted adult don’t let bullies steal your joy!  Also, don’t forget that we have a wonderful resource here at CGS, Ms. Burge. Ms. Burge is our school counselor and welcomes students that need to speak about bullying behavior or other issues that you are facing. You can reach out to here via email or stop by her office (located just down the hall from Mrs. Lassiter’s office).
