Thank you to all of you that shopped this year’s Book Fair!!! Our school hit a record-breaking number reaching almost $13,000.00 sold in the Book Fair! Scholastic gives back a percentage of this collection and it is used to supply our teachers with materials to use in their classrooms and stock our library!! Thank you so much for supporting literacy and our school! We greatly appreciate Mrs. Redd and all of our volunteers, we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you for working in our book fair and assisting our students this week!

Midterms:

Midterms are coming up next week for High School Block Courses. Please make sure your student is prepared and is asking their teacher for questions/concerns prior to the test dates.

Tik Tok Challenge:

Parents, we’d like to make you aware of a new “tik tok” challenge in which students are vandalizing and stealing things from school campus. Most of these actions are taking place in the bathrooms of schools and students are recording themselves destroying school property. I want to take a moment to remind all of our students and families that vandalism and stealing will NOT be tolerated at CGS and IF students are caught participating in such acts, they will be subject to disciplinary action. Thank you for helping to remind our students about what it means to respect other people’s property and take pride in our school.

Handbook Updates:

There were 2 updates to our school’s handbook that were added since you all received a copy of the document in Canvas. The updated copy has been added for your reference. The 2 changes were:

  1. A “Self-Plagiarism” policy was added to cheating/plagiarism in the Code of Conduct
    1. Plagiarism is/includes self-plagiarism; students must write original content for each assignment, and they cannot submit old work from previous classes as a new assignment in their current classes. (Page 50)
  2. Middle School Final Grade Calculations:
    1. Midterm Exam counts as 1 test grade in Semester 1 (Pages 30/31)

SS-ARS:

Over the next 2 weeks, our students in grades 6th-12th will be reminded about how to use the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System. This system allows students to anonymously report a classmate who could be at risk of hurting themselves or others.

Meet our New School Social Worker/Counselor:

Please help us welcome Mrs. Burge as CGS’ new Social Worker/Counselor. Mrs. Burge has spent the past two weeks checking in and getting acclimated to our student population. She’s very excited to be a part of our school. Thank you for being patient with her as she gets to know CGS’ routines and expectations. If you have any questions at any time, please contact her at candaceburge@cgsnc.org. Listed below is a little information about Mrs. Burge and our Student Support Services Team.

Mrs. Burge is originally from Durham, North Carolina but has been living in Greensboro, North Carolina for 5 years! She is the middle child of 3 girls and comes from a very large family on both her mother’s and father’s side. Mrs. Burge received her Bachelor’s degree from UNC- Pembroke and her Master’s degree from NC A&T State University. Her background is in psychology and social work! Mrs. Burge has a passion for working with all children and creating a safe space for students to thrive academically, emotionally, and mentally. She has been working with the child/adolescent population for 4 years now! Mrs. Burge worked in the school setting and in the pediatric office setting prior to serving Clover Garden. Mrs. Burge is excited to bring her experience to Clover Garden and join the Grizzly Family! Fun facts about her; she collects plants, is an avid Netflix binger, and loves to travel. The furthest she has traveled was to Cairo, Egypt. Mrs. Burge looks forward to serving the students and families at Clover Garden. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to refer your student for services then please reach out via call or email  (candaceburge@cgsnc.org or 336-586-9440 ext. 204).

Student Support Services:

Our Team is here to support the whole student! The services we provide range from academic counseling, to the mediation of peer issues, and emotional counseling. If you feel your student or another CGS student would benefit from a Student Support Services referral please click over to the Student Support Services Referral page and fill in the form. The form will then be submitted to our team.

Technology Needs:

Don’t forget that if you student has technology needs, please email our Tech Team at techsupport@cgsnc.org. We are working to add some supports on campus as well but the tech team will try to answer your questions remotely or when they are on campus on Wed. and Thurs. Thank you for your patience with them as they also serve many of charter schools as well.
