The TIME has ARRIVED!! Tomorrow is the 1st Day of SCHOOL for our 2021-2022 school year!! This is such an exciting time as we get everyone back in the building K-12. Open Houses and Kindergarten Orientation last week were phenomenal! Thank you all for your patience as we had a HUGE turn out in participation. Thank you for making it a priority of coming in for open house to help your student get prepared for the new school year. We appreciate your patience as we know lines were long getting in the building to get schedules and when picking up laptops. Your student (Grades 6th-12th) will be provided a laptop if they did not get theirs last week on Monday morning. They will be called out to the cafeteria to pick up their assigned laptop. They can also bring cash/check to purchase laptop insurance if interested. At this time, personal laptops are not being allowed on campus. We will let you know if this policy changes.

Many of you have asked me about our face-mask policy following Governor Cooper’s news conference last week. The updated information he provided will give CGS much more flexibility in operation than we’ve had in the past year and ½. Our school administration and committees are already working on proposed updated school policies and safety requirements to present to our Board of Directors based on the updated guidance from the NC Strong Schools Toolkit. We will continue to monitor Covid-19 and will be in contact with any changes or updates. Please be on the lookout within the next week for a survey regarding your thoughts on Covid-19 mitigations that CGS currently has in place. We greatly appreciate your feedback as we continue working towards a safe and healthy return to “normal” within our school community.

As of now until further notice, the face mask mandate remains in effect for ALL of our CGS students, families, teachers/staff while inside the building.

Please make sure that you review last week’s email in regards to traffic and pick-up/drop off procedures. Pick up and Drop off will take place in our K-2 Hug and Go car rider line. Students will not be able to be “walked in” unless they are Kindergarteners on their assigned 1st day. Please be patient as we work through the traffic issues this week. We promise to improve each and every day, but greatly need your patience and understanding while we work around the construction taking place on campus. Our front circle is almost complete! We will let you know as soon as possible when we are able to use it.

Your student’s teacher will provide weekly updates via email or in person for your student until Canvas is back up and running. Please be on the lookout for a weekly message from your child’s teacher(s) every Sunday.

B&A:

  • Our Before and After School Program is up and running this week. If we have any families dropping off students from the time of 7:00 A.M. and 7:30 A.M. please pull over into the “right” lane of our hug and go line and park to walk your student in to the B&A side fence entrance located across from the playground. This will be temporary this week until we get our front circle opened back up and then you will park in the front circle and walk your student in for before school and sign them in.

Medications:

  • Parents, if your student has permission to take ANY medications during the school year (including over the counter medications such as Tylenol, etc.) you MUST have a blue medication authorization form filled out for your student. This sheet will be in the packet that goes home with your student on Monday. Please return this packet ASAP so that we can ensure your student has the medication they need and the procedure in place to administer it. They may NOT take medication any where but in the front office being monitored by the front office staff.

Cell Phones:

  • Parents, please remind your student that cell phone usage is not allowed during the school day or during transitions unless their teacher gives them approval for instructional use. Please do not text or call your student during the school day. Please call the front office if you plan to check your student out early, etc. If your child is sick, they MUST come to the front office to check in with our front office staff so that we can monitor their illness and call home.

Staff Changes:

  • It is with sadness that we make you aware that Mrs. Rigsbee, our reading specialist and Mrs. Alvarado, our school’s social worker are not returning to CGS this school year. We will deeply miss both ladies but wish them the very best of luck in their future! Mrs. Rigsbee’s last day at CGS will be on August 6th. We hope to have a new social worker in place as soon as possible! In the meantime, our student services team does still work together to address concerns and issues your student may have. You can also reach out to administration for assistance or guidance if your student needs it during this transitional time.

We are excited about this new school year! Please visit our website and school’s Facebook page for updates throughout the school year!
