We hope that everyone had a safe and healthy winter break! It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time reflecting on the school year thus far and close out the 2020 year. Beginning with a new year, gives us all a fresh start filled with excitement and anticipation with what 2021 will offer! 2020 was a very tough year and we are all hopeful that 2021 will be bright and full of positivity! Thank you for your continued patience and support of our school and of our community. This second half of the school year will be busy! We are looking to hopefully bring all of our students back on campus in some capacity for the last 6 months of school. We will be monitoring health and safety metrics in our community and are excited about the opportunity to have our students back in our building! At this time, we are still “on track” to bring back our K-2 students beginning the week of January 19th. K-2 Families, we will be emailing you soon with additional details to help prepare your child for returning to on campus instruction. All of our students in grades K-12 will continue with remote learning beginning tomorrow, 1/4/21.

Annual Survey for CGS Families:

As we reflect on the past 6 months of our school year, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you! Each year around December/January, we send out an annual survey to our families and to our faculty/staff. We would greatly appreciate you taking a quick moment to give us some feedback on our survey. We understand that this school year has been TOTALLY different, and some questions may not apply as we have not been back on campus in person, but please answer the questions that are applicable. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. We use this information to help reflect on things that are working well and make improvements in the areas of need for the overall betterment of our school. Thank you for taking the time to complete this! Survey is due by Friday, January 15, 2021.

Updated Canvas Conferencing Schedule:

Parents/Students, please take a look at the attached Canvas Conferencing Schedule. This schedule has been updated slightly due to teacher request, course changes, etc. Make sure you have your schedule “laid out” and “organized” prior to remote learning beginning tomorrow. Self-discipline, routine, and organization will help you to be successful during this quarter of remote learning. Remember to reach out to your teachers with questions or concerns. Do not wait until the quarter is ending to be concerned about your grade or missing work. Stay on top of it from the beginning! Do not get in a pattern of not completing assignments. Use this new year as a new opportunity to improve your work habits from the first semester.

Spring Schedules:

All students should now be able to access their Spring Semester Schedules in Canvas and via PowerSchool. On Tuesday, the new quarter begins and your student will not have access to any courses that ended in Semester 1. Please allow us patience as we “switch over” our platforms to reflect the new courses that are beginning this semester and close out the 1st semester. Having “new courses” offered and beginning in the Spring is new for our school this year and we are working hard to ensure this process is as smooth as possible for our students, parents and teachers. All of our year-long or period courses will not change, only the block courses that were semester long and are ending. If you have any questions regarding your Spring Schedule, please contact Mrs. Nina at ninamiller@cgsnc.org or Mrs. Reagan @ emilyreagan@cgsnc.org.

Curriculum Night & Student Schedules for the 21-22 School Year:

We are excited to host our 2nd Annual Curriculum Night for our CGS Middle/High School students/parents for the 2021-2022 school year. Last year, this event was such a success and so helpful for our students and families that we’ve “revamped it” and improved it for this year as well. The purpose of curriculum night is to educate and inform our CGS families on course offerings for the next school year prior to their student signing up for courses. Last year, we had LOTS of changes taking place this school year, so at times, it was a bit overwhelming to wrap our heads around on the new schedule and new courses being offered. However, now that we’ve gotten our “feet wet” with our new block/period schedule, we feel that next year will be even easier to navigate and understand! Many of our students have already begun taking advantage of our course offerings and are taking more courses than ever before! Curriculum night will provide you with a Course Catalog for review so that you can see the courses being offered and the prerequisites/requirements that you must have prior to taking that course next school year. Our Curriculum Night is scheduled to be virtual this year and will be held on February 23, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. More details on how to access the event will be shared later! Save the date! We are very excited about the options and courses planned to be offered next school year. Be on the lookout for more information coming soon!

Report Cards:

2nd Quarter Report Cards will be distributed on January 15, 2021 from the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Any report cards that are not picked up will be mailed home. Included with your child’s 2nd Quarter report card will be their “intent form”. This form must be returned to Mrs. Nina, our school’s registrar by January 29th. This form can be mailed, dropped off, scanned or emailed to her. The intent form must be filled out by all of our current CGS students. This “secures” your child’s enrollment spot for next school year. Any intent forms not retuned will let us know that those enrollment spots are available to be filled by the lottery taking place in March. Please make sure you return your child’s intent form.

Material Distribution:

-On Monday, January 4, 2021,  we will have another distribution of materials for students. If your student has any of the courses listed below, please make sure that you come by campus and pick up their materials. Please stay in your vehicle and we will bring the material out to you. Please enter from the Burch Bridge Road entrance and travel around the building to the front circle. We request that you wear your face mask while interacting with our faculty/staff and that you remain 6 feet apart to social distance. If you’ve been in contact with anyone that has tested positive for Covid-19 or if you have symptoms of Covid-19 yourself, please do not come on campus. Thank you for helping us keep our faculty/staff safe!

Students with last names A-M will need to pick up materials from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M.

Students with last names N-Z will need to pick up materials from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.
