Today we are excited to introduce another member of the Clover Garden Board of Directors, Mrs. Lynn Foster. Mrs. Foster is one of our newer BOD members having become a member in 2019. She currently serves on both the Policies and Procedures and Academic Committees and holds an interim position on the Finance Committee.

When asked why she chose to be a part of the Clover Garden Board of Directors Mrs. Foster replied, “My professional life has always been about children. When I retired, I continued my services to Caswell County Schools as a tutor and substitute teacher. I found myself wanting to find other ways to share my educational expertise. I was informed of a community opening on the Clover Garden Board of Directors. I applied for the position and after interviewing with the Administrative Team and the Board, I felt the Board of Directors would be a good fit for me where I can hopefully serve as an advocate not only for the students but for the teachers of Clover Garden School.

Board members have many different responsibilities they must fulfill in order to shape the future of CGS. So we were interested in what Mrs. Foster would choose as her favorite project or achievement is as it relates to her service on the BOD. “To date, my involvement on the Academic Committee brings me the most pride-pride not necessarily of myself but of the Clover Garden administrators and staff as they have persevered through COVID-19. I have participated in virtual meetings with the leadership team as plans for remote learning have been designed and implemented. Their number one priority was and continues to be on academic success for Clover Garden students.”

Being a retired educator we thought it would be interesting to find out which educators had the most impact on Mrs. Foster. Her reply was heartwarming, “It’s difficult to choose just one as so many molded the adult and the educator that I would become. My most fond memory of an elementary school teacher was Mrs. Dorothy Lyday, fourth grade. Her classroom was welcoming; she was nurturing; and as her student, I always felt valued. In high school, it was Miss Betty Way (Vaughn) who impacted me most. She instilled in me a love for the English language and was a primary reason I chose to become an ELA educator. These two ladies, along with many of my former teachers, were such wonderful examples of this statement: “They (students) don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Throughout my educational career, I tried to remember the caring words and actions of my former teachers and make this one of my goals.”

When not busy with Board of Director’s duties Mrs. Foster is an active member of our local community. When asked how she is involved in our community she stated, “I am an active member of Locust Hill United Methodist Church. My roles there include participation in our food pantry, operated in conjunction with Second Harvest, our children’s program, First Steps in Christ, and the Locust Hill choir and praise team.” She also, “enjoys traveling and since my retirement, I have had the opportunity to travel to several destinations on my bucket list. I’ve lived in the North Carolina Piedmont my entire life, but I’m a beach girl at heart. I spend as many days as possible on the shores of Surfside Beach, SC, enjoying long walks and lazy days on the beach with family and friends.”

The Clover Garden community is very appreciative of Mrs. Foster’s commitment to education, our community, and the future of Clover Garden!
