We’ve had a busy week at CGS!

Shout out to our 3rd graders who knocked out their Beginning of Grade assessment last week! They did a fantastic job and we are proud of each and every one of them! Testing continues this week with our Seniors. Our Seniors will take the ACT on Tuesday this week. Please refer to my email message last week for instructions for coming on campus this week and the safety measures that will be enforced. We wish you all good luck! Mr. Cheek is offering an ACT Prep Session tomorrow evening via Zoom @ 8:00 P.M. Please check your email for more details on this wonderful opportunity!

Here’s a reminder of the documents available to provide questions, concerns, or comments during remote learning.

Elementary Cub Mascot:

Please see the attached Elementary Cub Mascot that will be representing our Elementary students this year and in the future! Thank you to PIP printing graphics team for creating a fantastic younger pal to our MS/HS Grizzly bear. We are very excited to begin using this Grizzly for our Elementary students’ activities/events.

Report Cards:

Believe it or not, it’s almost time for our 1st report cards for the 20-21 school year! Report Cards will be going out on Friday, October 9, 2020. These will be available for pick up on campus between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Please adhere to our schedule of last names A-M from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. and last names N-Z from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. If you are unavailable to pick up report cards during that time, please contact our front office. Report cards can only be given to a student or parent/guardian. If you’re having someone else pick up your child’s report card, you must call the front office and give us permission to give another individual a student’s report card.

Parent Observer Account in Canvas:

At the beginning of the school year, we sent you information in regards to “how” to create a Parent Observer account in Canvas. This account “ties to” your student’s Canvas account and allows you to be able to “see” your student’s progress in Canvas. This shows you their grades, missing assignments, etc. Please refer to our website for access to these videos and assistance to set up your account. Any questions can be directed to our Canvas assistance team at canvasassistance@cgsnc.org.

PowerSchool:Parents, PowerSchool will now be open for Parent viewing. Until now, you’ve only been able to view your student’s grades through Canvas through your Parent Observer accounts. Now, you will be able to access PowerSchool like you’ve done in the past. Please be patient with us, as there are a lot of elements that have to match exactly to get Canvas to roll over into PowerSchool and be accurate. (weighting, syncing, etc.) If things all line up correctly, the grade in Canvas will match the grade in PowerSchool. If it doesn’t please let your child’s teacher know and they will reach out to our Canvas Committee and see what the issue is. Please monitor your student’s progress by making sure they complete missing work, etc. before the quarter closes. Most teachers are closing grades out at the end of September to prepare for the October 9th report card. Please make sure your student knows the “hard deadline” of when their work is due if their teacher accepts “late” work.

Immunization Records:
Parents, just a reminder that if you have a student currently in the 7th or 12th grade, there are immunization requirements that they must have completed and paperwork turned into the school. For questions on what these immunizations are, please refer to our Parent/Student Handbook or contact Mrs. Nina to inquire about what requirements your child is still missing.

K-5 Specials:

Last week, there were a few difficulties with getting all of our K-5 students enrolled in their Specials courses in Canvas. They are all enrolled now and will be able to access their specials. Reminder that per our Remote Learning plan: students in K-5 may “choose” the special that they would like to complete daily. This is “voluntary” not mandatory at this time. This is just an option for our students who are missing those specials courses! There will be a “specials” button available on their Canvas Dashboards. Participating in these activities helps your student get to know their teachers of those classes and the material they will be covering this school year.

Battle of the Books:

Our ELA department this year has created a “Battle of the Books” club this school year! We are very excited about this opportunity for our avid readers to compete against each other in a battle of wits “Battle of the Books” style! The attachment will share more information in regard to some of the book titles that are included in the “Battle of the Books” club competitions. This club is open to 3rd graders and older. Please fill out this survey if you are interested. Email Mrs. Nikola at sarahnikola@cgsnc.org or Mrs. Rigsbee cindirigsbee@cgsnc.org if you have any questions.

Book Fair:

Our online Scholastic Book Fair is now OPEN! Stop by and take a look at the new books being offered this school year. The book fair closes on October 1, 2020. Click here to visit the online store. Please email Mrs. Redd if you have any questions at roseredd@cgsnc.org.

Material Distribution:

On Monday, September 21, 2020,  we will have another distribution of materials for students. If your student has any of the courses listed below, please make sure that you come by campus and pick up their materials. Please stay in your vehicle and we will bring the material out to you. Please enter from the Burch Bridge Road entrance and travel around the building to the front circle. We request that you wear your face mask while interacting with our faculty/staff and that you remain 6 feet apart to social distance.

If you’ve been in contact with anyone that has tested positive for Covid-19 or if you have symptoms of Covid-19 yourself, please do not come on campus. Thank you for helping us keep our faculty/staff safe!
