It is never too early to start thinking about college! Today we start our Destination College series which spotlights North Carolina colleges and universities. So let’s take a trip to the western part of the state and learn more about Appalacian State University!
North Carolina is home to several renowned colleges and universities that educate young people in a myriad of majors. One of the state’s leading universities is Appalachian State or ASU. Located in beautiful Boone, North Carolina ASU offers 150 bachelor’s degrees and 70 graduate programs.

Campus Life
Academics is a huge part of your college choice but the college experience is also important. Being located in Boone, ASU offers lots of outdoor hiking and camping opportunities. There are also great restaurants, shops, and activities located within walking distance of campus. Not to mention that ASU is home to the very successful Mountaineers football program. Tours/Important Dates
As a result of COVID-19 Appalachian State as suspended all in-person campus tours and prospective student events. That does not mean that you can’t learn more. ASU has a great section of their website designed to help prospective students learn more virtually. They offer a variety of tours, maps, videos, etc to help you learn more. You do have to schedule these experiences. Information can be found here.
If ASU is on your list of ‘Must Apply’ colleges and universities it is important to note a few important dates. The application deadline is February 1 and SAT/ACT score should be submitted on or before March 15. You can use CommonApp to apply which makes the process a bit more easy to navigate.
